GLASGOW SNP MEET DIAGEO AT PORT DUNDAS

GLASGOW SNP MEET DIAGEO AT PORT DUNDAS

NORTH EAST CANDIDATE MEETS UNIONS AND MANAGEMENT

Glasgow SNP MSP Bob Doris and the SNP candidate for Glasgow North East and
Council Opposition leader James Dornan today met with senior management at
the closure threatened Port Dundas distillery and cooperage.

The two also met with representatives of the GMB and Unite unions at the
site to give their support to the campaign to save the jobs

Speaking after the meeting MSP for Glasgow Bob Doris said;

"The employees at this site are determined to protect their livelihoods
and I am absolutely committed to fight alongside them for every Diageo job
in Glasgow.

"I was here on Tuesday to sign the petition alongside Labour and the trade
unions and it is essential that this campaign gets as much support as
possible.

"Port Dundas - along with the Johnnie Walker plant in Kilmarnock -
deserves a future.

"After speaking to Diageo management I welcome the guarantee that they
will consider the proposals Scottish Enterprise bring forwaard but remain
concerned that Port Dundas found it's way onto the closure list in the
first place."

Cllr James Dornan, SNP Candidate for Glasgow North East and Leader of the
Opposition on Glasgow Council said;

"There is real anger over Diageo's threat to jobs at Port Dundas and a
strong suspicion that they have been running down the site for closure for
some time.

"It is essential we stay focussed and work together to get the best result
for all employees threatened by Diageo's actions.

"With the guarantee that Diageo will consider Scottish Enterprise's
proposals it is vital we put together the best possible alternative to
closure and change Diageo's mind."
