GRAY LEADS LABOUR INTO THE RED

GRAY LEADS LABOUR INTO THE RED

LABOUR PUT POLITICS BEFORE PEOPLE

Figures released by the Electoral Commission have shown that donations to
the Scottish Labour Party fell by nearly 90% between 2007 and 2008 –
prompting questions about how long Labour can afford to continue funding
their operations from their dwindling reserves before going to the UK
party to beg for support.

Commenting, SNP Westminster Chief Whip Stewart Hosie MP said:

“News of Labour’s financial freefall is acutely embarrassing for Iain
Gray, who has failed to make any impression since taking over from Wendy
Alexander.

“Labour have clearly run their party finances as badly as they have been
running the country’s finances - and the collapse in donations to the
party underlines how unpopular Labour have become.

“No wonder people don’t want to give Labour money because they are party
out of ideas, putting politics before people.

“We’ve seen it in Glasgow North East where Labour MPs voted to delay the
by-election and leave local people without an MP for months. We’ve seen it
with Gordon Brown’s shameful abolition of the 10p tax rate which hit some
of the worst off people in Scotland. And we’ve seen it with Alistair
Darling’s insistence on inflicting £500m of cuts on the Scottish budget in
2010 – 2011, which is absolutely the wrong thing to do in a recession.

“Contrast Labour’s situation with that of the SNP who are enjoying all
time high membership and steady donations as people recognise that it is
the SNP who will always put Scotland first and have the ideas to take us
forward.”
