SCOTTISH POLL SHOWS GENERAL ELECTION A TWO HORSE RACE
SCOTTISH POLL SHOWS GENERAL ELECTION A TWO HORSE RACE
SNP HAIL LATEST YOUGOV POLL RESULT,
The SNP today (Sunday) hailed the results of a YouGov poll which demostrates the SNP's continued lead over Labour in Westminster voting intentions.
The poll comes just weeks after the SNP surged ahead in the European polls with 29.1% of the vote.
Commenting, SNP Business Convenor and Westminster Leader Angus Robertson MP said: "This is an excellent result for the SNP which backs up our strong showing in both the opinion polls and the European elections.
"There is no doubt that the General Election will be a two horse race in Scotland between the SNP and Labour. "The SNP is winning the trust of the people of Scotland. The SNP Scottish Government is delivering on its manifesto promises: freezing council tax, phasing out prescription charges and delivered record numbers of police officers.
"Contrast this with Labour who are threatening to cut Scotland's budget by £500m - absolutely the wrong thing to do in the teeth of a recession - while wasting billions on weapons of mass destruction which the people of Scotland do not want."
SNP Glasgow North East candidate David Kerr said:
"These figures will no doubt strike fear into the Downing Street bunker as it shows voters across the country turning their backs on a party which has failed to deliver for 12 years. "Instead of hiding away, the Labour party need to face voters and call this by-election immediately - it is totally unacceptable for the people of Glasgow North East to be left with an MP for months."
Notes:
In today's YouGov poll, headline voting intention - with a Scottish sample of 171 - is as follows: SNP - 36 Lab - 35 Tory - 13 LD - 10 Oth - 5 The total sample size was 1,956 adults and fieldwork undertaken between 16th - 17th July 2009.
