CHANNEL 4's FACTCHECK ON GORDON BROWNS CLAIMS ON UK CUTS.

CHANNEL 4's FACTCHECK ON GORDON BROWNS CLAIMS ON UK. CUTS.

LABOUR’S CUTS EXPOSED BY IFS & CHANNEL 4’s FACTCHECK.

BROWN CANNOT HIDE FROM TRUTH ABOUT HIS CUTS AGENDA.

The SNP have jumped on comments by the independent Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) on a Channel 4 News FactCheck which expose Brown’s misleading comments about his party’s cuts agenda for the UK and Scotland.

Far from planning investment in public services – as Gordon Brown claimed at PMQs today - the IFS have said spending is set for a real-terms cut.

The Channel 4 FactCheck recorded one of the worst scores for factual accuracy for Gordon Brown’s claims at 4 out of 5 – one less than the worst rating of 5 out of 5 which means that the claim under examination has absolutely no basis in fact.

SNP Treasury spokesperson Stewart Hosie MP has rounded on the Prime Minister over his claim and point out that Scottish public spending faces a real terms cut to its Budget of £500m from 2010/11 under Labour’s plans.

Commenting Mr Hosie said:

“This must be one of the worst scores a Prime Minister has ever scored on Channel 4’s FactCheck and must raise serious questions about the integrity of Gordon Brown and his government.

“Far from planning investment both Labour and the Tories are two peas in a pod when it comes to cuts.

“The Channel 4 FactCheck and the IFS have blown a hole in Gordon Brown’s attempts to mislead people across the UK and Scotland.

“The fact is that both Gordon Brown’s Labour and the Tories plan huge cuts in Scottish public spending and it is the SNP which stands in opposition to those plans.

“It is the SNP Government which is focussed on investing in recovery from recession. Just today that government launched a skills support package to provide real financial support to businesses and individuals through the recession.

“In contrast Gordon Brown was trying to save his own skin by misleading people about his government’s true agenda.”
