SNP IN LEAD FOR BOTH WESTMINSTER AND HOLYROOD
SNP IN LEAD FOR BOTH WESTMINSTER AND HOLYROOD
PARTY SUPPORT DOUBLED SINCE GENERAL ELECTION – AND MORE POPULAR NOW THAN
AT TIME OF HOLYROOD ELECTION SUCCESS
The Westminster and Holyrood party ratings for the ‘Ipsos MORI Scotland’
poll reported in the Sunday Times and Mail on Sunday at the weekend have
now been published – by the polling company itself – and show the SNP
ahead again for both UK General Election and Scottish Parliament voting
intentions. The poll is the most recent survey of Scottish political
opinion.
The poll of 1,009 Scots voters (19-23 November) shows that Westminster
voting intentions amongst those certain to vote (change from 2005 General
Election in brackets) are:
SNP: 34% (+16)
Lab: 32% (-8)
Con: 15% (-1)
Lib Dem: 12% (-11)
Other: 6%
Holyrood voting intentions (change on the 2007 election in brackets) are:
SNP: 36% (+3)
Lab: 32% (--)
Con: 12 (-5)
Lib Dem: 12 (-4)
SSP: 2%
Green: 3%
Other: 3% (+1)
SNP Depute Leader and Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:
“This is a sensational poll, putting the SNP back in the lead for both
Westminster and Holyrood voting intentions. SNP support has virtually
doubled since the last UK General Election – and we are more popular now
than even at the time of our success in the Scottish Parliament election
in May 2007.
“Support for Labour, the Tories and Lib Dems is all down.
“With the General Election due next spring, this poll would already give
the SNP some 16 seats – and we intend to keep building our support in the
months ahead so that we can deliver a block of SNP MPs to speak for
Scotland and fight for Scottish interests at Westminster.
“People like what they are getting from the SNP Government at Holyrood –
and we have already delivered two-thirds of our headline manifesto
commitments. The opposition parties only seem capable of playing silly
games within the Holyrood bubble – we are getting on with the job of
running a successful government, and this poll demonstrates that we are
continuing to build the trust of the people of Scotland.”
