BONUS ROW LABOUR’S ‘LATEST FINANCIAL FAILING’

BONUS ROW LABOUR’S ‘LATEST FINANCIAL FAILING’

UK IN NO POSITION TO PREACH TO THE REST OF EUROPE

SNP Treasury Spokesperson Stewart Hosie MP has today (Friday) described the row between RBS and the UK Government over bankers’ bonuses as the latest example of Labour’s irresponsible failure to adequately regulate the financial services industry.

Mr Hosie said:

“This row will jar with the millions of ordinary taxpayers struggling to make ends meet in a recession caused by a decade of financial mismanagement, and regulatory failure. Downing Street’s failure to head off this situation is just another example of their financial irresponsibility.

“This latest debacle further underlines the hypocrisy of Alistair Darling’s opposition to EU plans to supervise the financial sector. Given their abysmal track record in the area, the UK Government is in absolutely no position to preach to the rest of Europe about financial regulation.”
