TORIES PLANNED TO BULLDOZE HAMPDEN

TORIES PLANNED TO BULLDOZE HAMPDEN

POLLING SHOWS SCOTLAND CONTINUES TO RED CARD CONSERVATIVES

Commenting on a report in The Sunday Times today, revealing the last Tory government plotted to demolish Hampden Park – Scotland’s national football stadium – SNP Westminster spokesperson on Culture and Sport, Pete Wishart MP, said the revelations underlined why voters in Scotland continued to give the Conservatives a red card – as confirmed by recent polling.

Mr Wishart said:

“It says everything about the Tories’ attitude to Scotland that they seriously considering destroying the national stadium – just as they bulldozed jobs and industry during their 18 long years in power.

“The people of Scotland will keep on giving the Tories a red card.

“The latest poll gives the SNP well over twice the level of support as the Tories for the General Election – with a forecast of 16 seats to their two, and we can build our support further in the coming months. Even twisted Tory research shows that three-quarters of Scots believe that the SNP stand up for Scotland. Whether the next UK government is Labour or Tory, our preference is for a hung Westminster parliament, with a block of SNP MPs holding the balance, so that we can deliver real gains for Scotland – such as the release of our £170 million Fossil Fuel Levy from the Treasury’s grip.”
