BLEARS DEPARTURE: WE NEED GENERAL ELECTION NOT RESHUFFLE.

BLEARS DEPARTURE: WE NEED GENERAL ELECTION NOT RESHUFFLE.

PEOPLE MUST HAVE SAY ON POLITICIANS AND PARLIAMENT

Commenting on news that UK Communities Secretary Hazel Blears has resigned from the Cabinet with immediate effect, SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson MP said the case was now undeniable for a general election, and urged Labour MPs to support an SNP and Plaid Cymru move to bring forward the dissolution of parliament.

Mr Robertson said:

“Another day and another departure from Gordon Brown’s Cabinet - it is not a reshuffle we need but a general election.

“The prime minister, his government, and Parliament has lost all authority.

“All the major opposition parties are now backing the SNP and Plaid dissolution motion, and it is now for Labour MPs to get behind this and let the people have their say.

“The only way to restore trust in parliament is for the people to have their say in a general election. There can be no argument against the entire House of Commons submitting itself to a vote of the people who elected them.”
