RECORD NUMBER OF POLICE ON SCOTLAND’S STREETS.

RECORD NUMBER OF POLICE ON SCOTLAND’S STREETS.

MORE POLICE MAKES SCOTLAND SAFER WHILST BROWN’S GOVERNMENT FAILS SOUTH OF THE BORDER

The latest official statistics show that the SNP Government is making Scotland safer with a record number of police officers on Scotland’s streets. The latest statistics show that there are 17,048 full-time equivalent police officers on Scotland’s streets – the highest level ever recorded

This number is a 2.2% increase since the previous quarter and an even greater increase of 5% since March 2007.

The situation ion Scotland contrasts with south of the border where the Police Federation of England & Wales have called for 2,000 extra police officers due to cut backs by local police authorities.

Commenting on the good news SNP MSP Angela Constance - a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee – said:

“With just over two years into Government the SNP is living up to our commitment to make Scotland safer.

“With this record number of police on our streets we have made real progress in boosting police numbers across Scotland. The nay-sayers in the opposition are now looking pretty silly with their fairy tales of doom and gloom. In particular Richard Baker is looking out of his depth as he retreats on this issue.

“These figures show the difference an SNP government can make. In contrast south of the border there are reports of police numbers being cut and police representatives are demanding more officers

“These are record figures and show the SNP delivering on our promise to put more police on Scotland’s streets.”
