CON-DEM POSTAL PRIVATISATION PLAN CONDEMNED

CON-DEM POSTAL PRIVATISATION PLAN CONDEMNED

Commenting on confirmation that the UK coalition government will seek part-privatisation of the Royal Mail, SNP Postal Affairs spokesperson Mike Weir MP warned that the move would lead to job losses and service cuts.

Mr Weir said:

“Even part-privatisation would spell the beginning of the end for Royal Mail, and open the door to job losses, service cuts and a deterioration in the working conditions of postal workers.

“Despite Labour being forced to shelve the exact same plan because offers were inadequate, now the Tory’s and Liberals are set to pick up and push on with this crackpot plan.

“Postal services must remain in public hands and the SNP will continue to fight for the retention of the publicly-owned Royal Mail."
