ROBERTSON COMMENTS ON CLEGG REFORM PLANS
Commenting on the coalition governments political reform plans outlined today Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson MP said the only real answer to the West Lothian Question was independence for both Scotland and England.
Mr Robertson said:
"Scottish opinion is clear and overwhelming, and shows that the constitutional status quo is not in option - either in Scotland or England.
"The only real answer to the West Lothian Question is a new 21st century relationship for our two nations, based upon equality of status and mutual respect. Independence for both Scotland and England, running our own affairs, benefiting from our own resources, with the Queen as our shared Head of State.”
Commenting on confirmation that May 7th 2015 has been chosen as the date of the next Westminster General Election – the same day as the Scottish Parliament elections – Mr Robertson added:
"Scottish Parliament and local council elections have already been separated because of the confusion for voters of multiple voting systems, and it would show a distinct lack of respect for Westminster to go for the same day in 2015 as well. With goodwill and common sense this can be resolved.”
