FORMER TOP COP BACKS SNP

EX-ANTI-TERRORISM BOSS JOINS SNP

One of Scotland’s former top cops – the recently retired co-ordinator of
anti-terrorism services for Scotland Allan Burnett today backed the SNP at
the upcoming election.

Speaking at a campaign event in Glasgow with Justice Secretary Kenny
MacAskill the former Assistant Chief Constable highlighted SNP support for
the police and his support for SNP MPs at Westminster and an independent
Scotland.

Mr Burnett said:

“I started on the beat in Maryhill in 1979 and rose through the ranks,
retiring earlier this year as Assistant Chief Constable in charge of
Counter terrorism for the whole of Scotland.

“I joined the SNP the next day as it is the party committed to delivering
law and order on the issues that most affect our people.

“The SNP Scottish Government has backed Scotland’s police and has given us
the tools to tackle crime. 1000 extra police on the streets, the
resources we need to tackle serious and organised crime, and the
significant help we have received for counter-terrorism efforts – to
ensure we can do our job.

“The rhetoric from Westminster parties over new powers for Scotland’s
justice system will be just that without strong champions from the SNP.”

“At this election I will be backing local champions from the SNP to
protect Scotland’s interests in Westminster.”
