SNP COMMENT ON DEVOLUTION REPORT

SNP COMMENT ON DEVOLUTION REPORT
FINANCIAL POWERS FOR SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT
Commenting on the Devolution 2010 report to be published by IPPR which suggests looming spending cuts could damage the devolution settlement SNP MSP Dr Alasdair Allan said:

“The SNP believes the only sensible solution to the questions dogging devolution is for Scotland to become a normal independent nation with the same powers over our economy and policy making as any other.

“This report highlights the problems of Westminster controlling the Scottish budget and the importance of moving to financial responsibility for the Scottish Parliament as soon as possible, adding it's voice to a chorus of economists, business people and academics who now see the logic of Scotland being responsible for both sides of her balance sheet.

“What is clear from this report is that the devolution settlement for Scotland is a continuing process and the argument for more powers for the Scottish Parliament is increasingly compelling to all.”
