SNP WELCOME MOVE TO SCRAP ID CARDS

Welcoming confirmation of plans to by the Home Secretary to scrap ID
cards within 100 days, SNP Home Affairs spokesman Pete Wishart MP
said:

“The SNP campaigned from the outset for the ID cards scheme to be
binned and this is one cut that everyone will now welcome.

“The scheme was unwanted and unaffordable in the current financial
climate and presented an unacceptable threat to citizens' privacy and
civil liberties, with little tangible evidence to suggest it would do
anything to safeguard against crime and terrorism.

“Labour wasted hundreds of millions developing these cards – money
which should have been used to invest in essential public services.”
