SNP MORE POPULAR THAN GORDON BROWN - GRAY LAGS SALMOND IN MENTIONS

The SNP enjoys more mentions than Prime Minister Gordon Brown on the Scottish Labour website www.scottishlabour.org.uk

An analysis of the Scottish Labour website also reveals that Alex Salmond gets more mentions than the Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray.

The analysis - which undermines Labour's claim at the start of the election campaign that they would ignore the SNP - shows that the SNP enjoys 247 mentions to only 171 for party leader and Prime Minister Gordon Brown; and Alex Salmond enjoys 446 mentions compared to 316 for Iain Gray.

Commenting on the latest embarrassment for Labour the SNP's election campaign co-ordinator Stewart Hosie said:

"Just like in the 2007 election Labour's campaign has been a litany of negativity and fear. It is no wonder they are heading firmly for third place in this UK election.

"Scotland needs more than the same old, negative Labour politicians and campaigning.

"Scotland needs champions and defenders. In these final days of the election that message is even more important.

"As Labour's prospects go into freefall, no wonder more and more people are saying they won't be voting Labour in this election and are looking to the SNP to protect the things that matter."
