SNP COMMENT ON TELEGRAPH POLL

SNP COMMENT ON TELEGRAPH POLL

Commenting on a YouGov /Telegraph poll published today which shows the SNP
is the only party that can speak up for Scotland at Westminster SNP
Westminster Leader Angus Robertson said:

“The poll clearly shows that the General Election in Scotland is a
two-horse race between the SNP and Labour – with SNP support already six
points up on the last General Election. And the SNP’s Holyrood rating is
virtually identical to when we won the Scottish Parliament election in
2007 – which is remarkable and extremely encouraging some two-and-a-half
years into office, with positive approval ratings for the SNP Government.

“Some surveys have shown support for independence lower, others higher.
The reality is that the SNP have the confidence to put the option of
independence and equality for Scotland to the people in a referendum, so
that they have their say, while the London-based parties are ganging up to
try to shut the people out of the process – they will pay a heavy
electoral price for their anti-democratic stance.

"And support for a referendum itself is some 13 points up on a similar
YouGov survey back in March, which is also positive. Scotland needs the
full economic and financial powers of independence so that we have the
tools to promote strong and sustainable economic growth in Scotland, and
stop Labour and the Tories ripping off Scotland’s budget. In these
circumstances, we are confident that independence will be successful in
the free and fair referendum that we propose for next year.”
