Dr Bill Wilson, MSP for the West of Scotland, attended the Clyde Fastlink meeting chaired by Cllr Derek MacKay, leader of Renfrewshire Council. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss proposals for a rapid bus transport system for areas north and south of the Clyde. The proposals for the southern route would mean that Renfrew, Braehead, the new Southern General Hospital and Glasgow City centre will be linked by a new, speedy bus transport service.
Speaking on the meeting, Bill said:
“I congratulate Cllr MacKay on arranging this successful meeting, which had over-whelming cross-party support, for the development of the Fastlink service. The economic and social advantages for the creation of this speedy service will benefit residents and businesses throughout Renfrewshire.
“Today I have given my full backing for the proposals. I have written to the Minister for Transport, stressing the scheme’s benefits and also reminding him that Renfrew is Scotland’s largest town without a rail station.
“The plans for Fastlink include linking the service to venues for the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Fastlink would be a fantastic way for people to travel to the various venues, as well as providing a legacy that will provide excellent transport for everyone along the Fastlink route.” |
