NIMROD MP REPORTS PROGRESS IN FAMILY COMPENSATION TALKS
Progress has been reported in resolving unsettled compensation payments for the families of 14 service personnel killed when RAF Nimrod XV230 exploded in Afghanistan more than three years ago.
Angus Robertson, the MP for Moray, whose constituency is home to the Nimrod fleet at Kinloss, today (Wednesday) met with Armed Forces Minister Bill Rammell after raising the issue during Prime Ministers Questions in the House of Commons.
Mr Robertson, leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) at Westminster and party Defence spokesperson, said:
“Compensation issues have still not been resolved for many of the widows, partners and families of the service personnel who died aboard Nimrod XV230 three years ago.
“Armed Forces Minister Bill Rammell listened with concern when I briefed him on the many concerns raised about delayed compensation arrangements for family members.
“In a positive suggestion he has offered to bring together lawyers from both sides to discuss any hold-ups in the process.
“This issue should be resolved as a priority and any moves which genuinely hasten an agreement and closure for the families will be warmly welcomed.”
