SUCCESS OF SNP CABINET SUMMER TOUR
SUCCESS OF SNP CABINET SUMMER TOUR
ALL FIVE EVENTS COST LESS THAN ONE UK CABINET MEETING IN SOUTHAMPTON
Welcoming the proactive publication by the Scottish Government of information, including costs, of the summer tour of the Cabinet this year – which met in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Melrose and Stornoway – SNP Whip Brian Adam MSP said:
“It is clear that the Scottish Government’s Summer Cabinet visits this year were a huge success, and provided an excellent opportunity for people throughout Scotland to meet directly with Ministers. In total, almost 1,400 people attended the Homecoming Receptions and National Conversation events.
“It is an excellent initiative to take government to communities all across Scotland, and local people are clearly extremely enthusiastic about these opportunities to meet and engage with ministers.
“The figures also show that the SNP are conducting the business of government in a far more cost effective way than the UK government – a single meeting of the UK Cabinet in Southampton cost over 25 per cent more than all five Scottish Government summer Cabinet meetings combined. And the UK Cabinet meeting in Glasgow cost five times the total for the range of events when the Scottish Government Cabinet met in the city.
“And of course these Cabinet events will also have been excellent for local economies in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Melrose and Stornoway.
“The SNP’s Summer Cabinet tour represents local participation and democracy in action.”
