SNP HOLYROOD CONSTITUENCY LEAD GROWS SINCE LAST TNS POLL IN JUNE

SNP HOLYROOD CONSTITUENCY LEAD GROWS SINCE LAST TNS POLL IN JUNE

LABOUR SHADOW CABINET SEATS WOULD FALL TO SNP

The Scottish National Party published an analysis of the TNS-BMRB poll in
the Herald today, which shows that the SNP’s lead in constituency voting
for the Scottish Parliament has actually INCREASED since the last TNS-BMRB
poll of Holyrood voting intentions in June. That poll was conducted at
the end of June to coincide with ten years of devolution. The latest
TNS-BMRB Holyrood constituency poll figures, with the June poll in
brackets, are:

SNP: 40% (39)
Lab: 32% (32)
Con: 13% (12)
Lib Dem: 11% (11)
Other: 5% (7)

On the basis of this poll, the seats projection would be:
Weber Shandwick – Scotland Votes seat projection
SNP: 54 seats (+7)
Lab: 44 (-2)
Con: 15 (-2)
LibDem: 14 (-2)
Green: 2

A range of Labour shadow ministers would lose their seats to the SNP,
including:
Jackie Baillie (Dumbarton)
Andy Kerr (East Kilbride)
Pauline McNeill (Glasgow Kelvin)
Karen Whitefield (Airdrie & Shotts)
Lewis Macdonald (Aberdeen Central)

Iain Gray’s own seat in East Lothian would be on the point of toppling to
the SNP, and the party would also gain Nicol Stephen’s seat in Aberdeen
South.

In addition, the Scottish breakdown of the recent Angus Reid Strategies
poll for a Westminster General Election (conducted from 4-6 November),
gave the SNP 27% to Labour’s 32% - a gap of just 5 points.

Commenting on the analysis, SNP Business Convener Angus Robertson MP said:

“The extraordinary feature of this poll is that the SNP’s ratings for the
constituency Holyrood vote have actually INCREASED since the last poll in
June – a phenomenal achievement for the SNP well over two years into
government.

“A raft of Labour shadow cabinet ministers would lose their seats to the
SNP – including their newly-appointed Shadow Health Spokesperson Jackie
Baillie, Andy Kerr and Pauline McNeill. And Iain Gray’s own seat would be
within a whisker of being won by the SNP.

“For a Westminster election, the most recent indication of Scottish
opinion has a gap of just five points between the SNP and Labour – which
is a great position as we look forward to the General Election, and
electing a block of SNP MPs to speak for Scotland.

“The SNP are continuing to earn the trust of the people of Scotland, and
we are delivering – record numbers of police officers, the restoration of
free education, abolishing prescription charges, and rapid action to
support 15,000 jobs through Labour’s recession – which is why the SNP
Government retains record levels of popularity.”
