MCBRIDE EMAILS TIP OF LABOUR SLEAZE ICEBERG

Shadow Scotland Office spokesperson, Angus MacNeil MP, has today (Tuesday) called on the Prime Minister to stop dithering and to speak publicly over the Downing Street smear e-mails.

Mr MacNeil has also warned that the McBride smears may be the tip of the Labour sleaze machine noting that the blog campaigns similar to the one proposed by Damian McBride were already up and running in Scotland and Wales.

Commenting, Mr MacNeil said:

“Gordon Brown needs to find his much trumpeted moral compass, issue an unreserved apology and draw a line under Downing Street’s dirty politics.

“Changes to the Special Advisor code are only window dressing and in no way let Gordon Brown off the hook.

“Greg Dyke left the BBC for a lot less due to the criticism of Andrew Gilligan and the sexed up Iraq dossier report. I bet Greg Dyke didn’t even know Andrew Gilligan - but Damian McBride was Brown’s right hand man.

“Wales and Scotland have already witnesses the effect of Labour Red Flag style nasty blogs with the Welsh one - Aneurin Glyndwr - having recently been censured.

“The internet represents a massive opportunity for furthering political debate. Gordon Brown must act immediately to stop it being turned into a tool for Labour spin, smears and sleaze.”
