WISHART DELIGHT AS SALINS SET TO STAY.

WISHART DELIGHT AS SALINS SET TO STAY.

HOME OFFICE DITCH DEPORTATION DECISION

News that a Perth resident who faced deportation because his savings dipped £78 below the minimum level set by the Border Agency has won a reprieve have been hailed by Perth and North Perthshire MP, Pete Wishart.

Mr Wishart has been pursuing the case of Swarthick Salins with the Home Office, and expressed delight at news of the deportation rethink. Earlier this week, First Minister Alex Salmond also appealed to the Home Secretary, urging a reverse of an immigration tribunal decision that had refused Dr Salins’s application for leave to stay in the UK.

Mr Wishart said:

“I am absolutely delighted at this decision and that a sensible conclusion has been reached.

“It is appalling that this situation was allowed to occur in the first place, but I am glad that common sense has finally prevailed.

“There has been a fantastic community effort from the people of Perth, our local and national media and the First Minister in ensuring Mr Salins' case has been heard loud and clear by the Home Office.

“Scotland has spent centuries exporting its talented people across the world. When able and highly educated people like Swarthick Salins want to make a life in Scotland for their families, they should be welcomed and supported, not hounded by Home Office bureaucracy.

“I wish Mr Salins and his family all the very best for the future.”
