BLAIR TO CAMPAIGN IN ELECTION – MANDELSON MUST HAVE TAKEN LEAVE OF SENSES
BLAIR TO CAMPAIGN IN ELECTION – MANDELSON MUST HAVE TAKEN LEAVE OF SENSES
SNP HAVE SUBMITTED IMPEACHMENT EVIDENCE TO CHILCOT
Commenting on reports of Peter Mandelson’s remarks that Tony Blair will
campaign for Labour in the General Election, Scottish National Party
leader and First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond MP said:
“Peter Mandelson must have taken leave of his senses if he thinks that
this is anything other than a disastrous move for Labour. As Tony Blair
prepares to be held to account for the disastrous war in Iraq, we now have
the full extent of the expert government advice stating in unequivocal
terms that war would be illegal.
“At the request of the Chilcot Inquiry, the Scottish National Party
submitted in December the legal advice which underpinned the case to
impeach Tony Blair, pursued in the House of Commons in 2006. It was
beyond doubt during the impeachment process that Tony Blair had taken the
country into an illegal war, and we now know that this view was shared
before the war by the Government’s own expert legal advisers.
“In these circumstances, for Peter Mandelson to announce that Tony Blair
will campaign in the election shows an arrogance which is typical of New
Labour, and a lack of judgement which is just as extraordinary.”
