PROBLEMS FOR GRAY PILE UP AFTER MP DESELECTION

PROBLEMS FOR GRAY PILE UP AFTER MP DESELECTION

Labour’s leader in the Scottish Parliament is under pressure to say
where he stands on the deselection of East Lothian MP Anne Moffat by
local Labour activists. Iain Gray represents the equivalent
constituency in Holyrood, and is already embroiled in a scandal over
the use of local council facilities for party fundraising.

Calling on Mr Gray to clarify whether he supports Labour activists’
vote to deselect Ms Moffat, SNP candidate for East Lothian Andrew
Sharp said:

“Iain Gray has been conspicuously quiet over this selection saga and
he should say whether he is behind Anne Moffat or whether he is behind
her deslection.

“The whispers surrounding Gray’s awful performances at Holyrood are
growing louder with each passing week and speculation is mounting over
whether he can survive as Labour leader.

“He is clearly unable to organise a faction in his own constituency.
Labour were defeated by the SNP in East Lothian at the European
elections last year, are struggling to explain why for years council
facilities were illegally used for party fundraising, and have now
rejected their own MP. Gray’s constituency is a complete shambles.

“People in East Lothian are fed up hearing about Labour’s internal
squabbles and just want an MP who will put the community first. After
their relentlessly negative campaign in Glasgow North East, Labour
appears to have now turned its attack on themselves in East Lothian.

“Labour’s infighting has become increasingly bitter and will further
isolate the party from voters who are fed up with the community being
overlooked.”
