TORIES CHALLENGED ON MISLEADING POSTERS

TORIES CHALLENGED ON MISLEADING POSTERS

BACKFIRING POSTER CAMPAIGN SHOWS CONTEMPT FOR SCOTLAND

The SNP today (Sunday) challenged the Conservatives over their misleading

poster campaign as they try to con Scottish voters at the General Election.

Posters bearing the slogan “I’ll cut the deficit, not the NHS” have begun

appearing across Scotland – despite the fact that Scotland’s health budget

is determined by the Scottish Government.

SNP Chief Whip and General Election Coordinator, Stewart Hosie MP, has

written to David Cameron demanding he take the posters down immediately

and admit that his party has nothing to offer Scottish voters.

Commenting, Mr Hosie said:

“This campaign will backfire badly on the Tories. Cameron’s claims

underline how irrelevant Scotland is to the Tories – and how irrelevant

they are in Scotland.

“David Cameron is either trying to mislead Scottish voters, or he does not

understand that health funding is devolved and is not set by the

Westminster Government.

“This latest gaffe further illustrates how the phoney war between Labour

and the Tories has nothing to offer Scotland. The real fight at the

General Election is for Scotland.

“A little bit of honesty from the Tories would show that they, like

Labour, plan to slash spending on public services and that it is only the

SNP who can protect Scotland’s NHS.

“Not content with excluding Scotland’s voice from the election debate they

are now trying to con the public. Instead of this misleading and dishonest

campaign they should take the posters down and admit that the Tories have

nothing to offer Scotland.”
