PUBLIC TRUST IN LABOUR DISAPPEARS

PUBLIC TRUST IN LABOUR DISAPPEARS

BROWN MUST GIVE EVIDENCE BEFORE ELECTION

Commenting on a YouGov poll in tomorrow’s Sunday Times, showing that only 32% of the public believed that Labour Prime Minister was truthful about the Iraq war, SNP Westminster Group Leader Angus Robertson has demanded that Gordon Brown appears in front of Sir John Chilcot’s inquiry before the election.

Angus Robertson MP said:

“This highlights just how little trust people have left in the Labour party – from the Iraq war to cash for peerages, this Government has lied to the people of both Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom.

“Tony Blair led us into the biggest foreign policy disaster of all-time and Gordon Brown bankrolled it. It is welcome that Tony Blair will appear as a witness but Gordon Brown must also be held to account and it must happen before the General Election.

“The SNP stood firmly against the illegal invasion of Iraq and so did the people of Scotland. The Labour Party ignored both and as a result hundreds of our brave troops and countless civilians have paid the ultimate price for this deception. The Chilcot enquiry must dig deep and uncover those responsible.”
