PM’S ECONOMIC LECTURE ‘THE HEIGHT OF HYPOCRISY’

BROWN PUTS SCOTTISH RECOVERY AT RISK

SNP Treasury Spokesman, Stewart Hosie MP, has seized on comments made by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown at his monthly press conference today (Monday) where he warned that removing stimulus from the economy risked a double-dip recession.

Commenting, Mr Hosie said:

“It is the height of hypocrisy to lecture on the dangers of withdrawing fiscal stimulus while denying Scotland continued accelerated capital spending.

"The Scottish Government's Economic Recovery Plan is making a real difference - supporting 15 000 jobs across Scotland. The Scottish economy is showing signs of resilience and outperforming the UK as a whole but recovery is fragile.

“By cutting the funding stream off as the Scotland’s economy begins to turn a corner, the UK Labour Government is putting Scotland at risk of a double-dip recession.

“It’s time for the Prime Minister to practise what he preaches and reinstate the capital spend in the 2010 – 2011 Budget.”
