QUESTIONS CONTINUE OVER GLOBESPAN COLLAPSE

QUESTIONS CONTINUE OVER GLOBESPAN COLLAPSE

Commenting on reports the administrators of FlyGlobespan are to take legal action against E-Clear, the firm which handled credit card transactions for Globespan in an effort to reveal if it holds £20 million of funds owed to the airline SNP Lothians MSP and Transport Committee member Shirley-Anne Somerville said:

“There are many questions unanswered over E-Clear’s role in Globespan’s collapse.

“There is little doubt left that this money should have been paid to Globespan and may have prevented the collapse of this company – a collapse that cost 800 jobs and left thousands stranded.

“If the administrators can recover this £20 million and repay it to all those who made online bookings, people who in many cases are not entitled to any compensation it will be a welcome move.

“With airlines in other countries also suing E-clear it seems that while Globespan had problems the actions of E-clear may well be at the heart of Globespan’s unfortunate collapse.”
