ROBERTSON PILES PRESSURE ON PM TO APPEAR BEFORE CHILCOT

ROBERTSON PILES PRESSURE ON PM TO APPEAR BEFORE CHILCOT

SNP MP WRITES TO SIR JOHN TO DEMAND EVIDENCE SESSION

‘GORDON BROWN MUST ACCOUNT FOR HIS ACTIONS BEFORE ELECTION’

SNP Westminster Leader, Angus Robertson MP, today (Wednesday) directly challenged Gordon Brown to give evidence to the Chilcot Inquiry before the General Election.

In response, the Prime Minister revealed that he had written to Sir John Chilcot to say that he was “happy to give evidence at any time”.

Mr Robertson has now written to Sir John, calling for this evidence session to take place without delay.

Commenting after the exchange at Prime Minister’s Questions, Mr Robertson said:

“Tony Blair led us into the worst foreign policy disaster in modern times and, as senior figures involved in the run up to the conflict have already told the Chilcot Inquiry, Gordon Brown was right beside him all the way.

“The truth of illegal invasion must be known before the public goes to the polls at the General Election. The people deserve the whole truth about a war fought in their name but the full facts cannot be known if Gordon Brown – a major player – is allowed to duck out of the spotlight.

“The Prime Minister has now put on the record that he has no objections to appearing at anytime. Tony Blair will give evidence next week – there must be no delay in setting a date for Gordon Brown to account for his actions.”
