"GRIT INQUIRY" CALLED FOR BY FIFE MSP

"GRIT INQUIRY" CALLED FOR BY FIFE MSP

Tricia Marwick MSP has demanded that Fife Council hold an investigation into how stocks of grit and salt were allowed to run so low forcing the Scottish Government and other local authorities to step in to assist.

Mrs Marwick who represents Central Fife said:

"I appreciate the assistance that the Scottish Government and other local authorities have given to help Fife Council through this period.

"If the Government had not stepped in the Fife would have run out of supplies. Fife has been put in an intolerable position and I want to know why it happened,

"Fife Council needs to have a full inquiry into how this situation was allowed to develop. Statements on behalf of the Council that other authorities were in a similar position to Fife are simply not true.

"Something has gone seriously wrong in Fife and it is up to the council to find out what and to ensure that we are never left in this position again. There must be the fullest investigation which covers the contracts, the suppliers and the conduct of Fife Council officials over this whole affair. "
