SNP COMMENT ON BOUNDARY REVISIONS

SNP COMMENT ON BOUNDARY REVISIONS

ELECTION CONTROL MUST BE TRANSFERED

Commenting on the revised proposals from the Boundary Commission for
Scotland for Holyrood regions at the 2011 election an SNP spokesperson
said:

“Boundaries do not win elections. Regardless of the lines on the maps the
SNP will work hard in Government and in all parts of Scotland to win
public trust with our support for a strong Scottish economy and Scottish
jobs during the recession.

“The revised regions will make far more sense to members of the public
than the original proposals for example bringing Dumbarton back from the
Highlands to the West of Scotland and leaving Linlithgow in the Lothians.

“However the entire system exposes the anomaly of Scottish Parliament
boundaries being decided by the UK Government with the decision now
resting with Jim Murphy. With the Commission having made it’s
recommendations Jim Murphy should agree without any further changes and
must make sure that powers over Holyrood elections are transferred to the
Scottish Parliament asap.”
