HOON LETTERS SET OUT CASE TO ANSWER FOR BROWN
HOON LETTERS SET OUT CASE TO ANSWER FOR BROWN
BROWN MUST FACE CHILCOTT QUESTIONS BEFORE ELECTION
Letters appearing to show Gordon Brown rejected funding for vital
helicopters in Afghanistan between 2002 and 2004 expose the case to answer
for Gordon Brown over his conduct in relation to the war in Afghanistan.
Leaked letters between former Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon and then
Chancellor Gordon Brown show the military saw Brown as withholding vital
resources.
SNP Westminster leader and Defence Spokesman Angus Robertson called for
Brown to face questions on the letters before the general election.
Mr Robertson said:
"Gordon Brown held the purse strings for Labour's war and it seems he is
responsible for the shortage of helicopters and equipment now facing out
military.
“If Brown as Chancellor withheld funds for vital equipment then there is a
very real case for him to answer.
“Before the public go to the polls they should have the chance to see him
and other ministers held to account. The families of our troops deserve
answers.
"It is utterly ridiculous that the Prime Minister will not be held to
account before the election for his actions around the war in Iraq.
"If Labour are confident that they were right and the public were wrong
over Iraq then Labour Ministers should bring forward their evidence and
face up to the charges they face over this illegal conflict."
