AFTER TWELVE YEARS IN POWER, LABOUR FAIL TO REFORM LORDS.

AFTER TWELVE YEARS IN POWER, LABOUR FAIL TO REFORM LORDS.

‘PARLIAMENT NO PLACE FOR THOSE IN THE KNOW AND ON THE MAKE’

SNP Westminster Leader Angus Robertson MP today (Wednesday) challenged Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Prime Minister's Questions as to why, after twelve years in power, Labour had failed to reform the House of Lords.

Commenting immediately after Prime Minister’s Questions, Mr Robertson said:

“Labour have been in power for twelve years yet we still have an unaccountable, opaque second chamber with no mechanism for removing Lords who flagrantly break the rules.

“The ongoing cash for laws debacle – centring on Labour peers - has further discredited the House of Lords. Parliament is no place for members in the know and on the make.

“Now, more than ever, this long overdue reform is needed.”
