LIBDEMS TAKING THE VOTERS FOR FOOLS.
LIBDEM THREAT TO CUT MAJOR TRANSPORT PROJECTS
LIBDEMS TAKING THE VOTERS FOR FOOLS.
Highlands & Islands MSP Dave Thompson has slammed LibDem plans to cut funding to roads in the north of Scotland as part of their plans to cut £800 million from the Scottish budget.
Mr Thompson's comments follow remarks by the LibDem Transport spokesperson, Alison McInnes, about the Elgin by-pass. As part of the LibDem taxation plans to cut £800 million from the Scottish budget they have identified the "£14 billion infrastructure investment plan" for cuts. (Scotsman, 15 September 2008)
Commenting Mr Thompson said:
"This latest round of hypocrisy from the LibDems follows their demands for more funding for the Inverness by-pass. How on earth can they fund roads in the north of Scotland - like uncosted promises to dual the A9 from Tore to Tain - when they plan to cut investment in infrastructure.
"It's time the LibDems came clean about their plans with the voters in the north of Scotland. Instead they think they can treat them like fools with false promises that they won't deliver because they plan to cut a massive £800 million from the Scottish budget with transport spending as a target area.
"It is all the more hypocritical when one considers LibDems were transport ministers for the lion's share of the 8 years they were in power with Labour.
"They failed to deliver any significant advances in improving the infrastructure of the Highlands & Islands whilst the SNP Government is already moving to dual the A9, upgrade the A82 and start the Inverness by-pass. We are also moving forward with progressing other major projects.
"If the LibDems think they can take the people of the north of Scotland for fools by saying one thing on the doorstep in the Highlands and another in Edinburgh they will discover that they have a tendency of punishing them at the ballot box."
