SNP MP COMMENTS ON THIRD RUNWAY PLAN.

SNP MP COMMENTS ON THIRD RUNWAY PLAN.

SCOTLAND NEEDS HIGH SPEED RAIL LINK TO LONDON

Following the announcement of plans by the UK Government to build a third runway at Heathrow, SNP Westminster Environment spokesperson Mike Weir MP has called for clarity over references by the Transport Secretary to the development of new high-speed rail services between London and Scotland.
Mr Weir said:
”The announcement drives a jumbo jet, as well as a coach and horses, through the UK government’s commitments on emissions reductions.
”It was crucial that Ministers balanced economic benefits of the expansion with environmental concerns, but the vague references by Geoff Hoon to new high-speed rail links between Scotland and London are simply not clear enough.
”Scotland needs a high-speed rail link to London, and we need to be certain that Geoff Hoon’s warm references to public transport and rail improvements are a serious commitment rather than merely a cynical attempt to make the third runway proposals sound more palatable.”
