BANK OF ENGLAND REFUSES TO DISCUSS SCOTTISH ECONOMY.
Commenting on the Bank of England's refusal to discuss the state of the Scottish economy with the Scottish Parliament's Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee SNP MSP Rob Gibson – a member of the committee – said their refusal was unacceptable.
Commenting Mr Gibson said:
"With yesterday's call for bank chief's to attend the committee securing cross party support this refusal by the Bank of England to engage in that discussion is unacceptable.
"In odder to get a full picture of recent economic events and their impact on Scotland the Parliament must get the full picture. That not only means evidence from bankers but also from the Bank of England, the UK Financial Services Authority and current and previous Chancellors of the Exchequer.
"To inform our views we need a thorough investigation and the Scottish Parliament should hear from all those involved in creating this age of irresponsibility in the first place.
"With the financial services sector playing a significant role in Scotland's economy it is only right that the Scottish Parliament hears from all those involved in the UK Government, banking, oversight and regulation about how this situation came to pass."
