OVERWHELMING PARLIAMENTARY SUPPORT FOR TOLL-FREE BRIDGE.

OVERWHELMING PARLIAMENTARY SUPPORT FOR TOLL-FREE BRIDGE.

Central Fife SNP MSP Tricia Marwick has welcomed tonight's overwhelming vote for the new Forth Crossing to be a toll-free bridge. The vote was passed by 121 votes for to 2 against.

Commenting on the vote Ms Marwick said:

"The SNP Government is committed to building the Forth crossing on budget and on time by delivering best value with traditional public procurement, and more importantly without tolls.

"It is welcome that the Scottish Parliament has backed that position and put an end to the imposition and threat of tolls on the people of Fife.

"It was the SNP which finally abolished tolls on the Forth Road Bridge after years of false dawns offered by others. I'm proud that it was the SNP which showed it could be done and could be done quickly.

"Scotland has seen the disastrous effects of building bridges through private finance with huge charges on the Skye bridge and ridiculous profits for the companies behind it.

"By now supporting the SNP Government's sensible proposal to build the new crossing in the public sector it is good news that the parties who used to support tolls have seen the error of their ways and ruled out a tolls on a new bridge for Fife."
