LABOUR MUST FACE CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITY.

LABOUR MUST FACE CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITY.

BRANKIN FAILS EXAM TEST – GRADE “A” FOR HYPOCRISY

SNP MSP Kenneth Gibson today welcomed a report from inspectors which showed Scottish education is improving, as he condemned Labour’s attempts to avoid responsibility for standards in Scotland’s schools.

Labour have not only failed to accept any responsibility for the two years of their administration under investigation – Labour’s education spokesperson Rhona Brankin has even forgotten that she voted for reform of the exam system including assessment of literacy and numeracy at an earlier age only last week.

Mr Gibson said;

“Today’s report is a welcome assessment of where we are and where our schools, teachers and pupils can and must improve to ensure Scottish education is the best in the world.

“With Curriculum for Excellence, a new exams structure and new schools opening across Scotland we are building a better education for Scotland’s children.

“Rhona Brankin has failed her exam test. Last week she voted with the SNP, Tories and Lib Dems to assess literacy and numeracy in younger children – today she is attacking that very vote. The Labour party should get a grade A for hypocrisy.

“It is disappointing that instead of following Fiona Hyslop’s example, considering this report and working constructively with schools and teachers to ensure Scotland does better in the future the Labour party seem determined to avoid their responsibility for the first two years of this study.

“Labour may have chosen to opt out of making Scotland's schools a better place with the best possible education but the SNP will continue to work with teachers and parents to make Scotland smarter.”
