NORTHERN IRELAND TO HEAR SCOTTISH RURAL SUCCESS STORY.

NORTHERN IRELAND TO HEAR SCOTTISH RURAL SUCCESS STORY.

SNP MSP Roseanna Cunningham, Convener of the Scottish Parliament Rural Affairs and Environment Committee will take Scotland’s experience of rural policy to Northern Ireland this week.

Ms Cunningham will speak to the Assembly’s Agriculture and Rural Development Committee as well as speaking at two events hosted by the All Party Assembly Group on Rural Sustainability on rural development in Scotland.

Ms Cunningham’s visit comes ahead of a planned White paper on Rural Development in Northern Ireland from the Northern Ireland Executive.

Speaking ahead of her visit Ms Cunningham said;

“It is a privilege to be invited to address the Assembly’s Agriculture Committee and to speak to members of the Assembly on Scotland’s experience of rural policy.

“Since devolution Scotland has learnt a lot of lessons on rural policy and it is right that we share these lessons with other devolved administrations.

“This is not just about passing legislation, but about ensuring those who are responsible for delivering rural policy are part of its development.

“We have been able to focus rural development policy on the issues that matter in Scotland, to liaise closely with those working on rural policy every day and to work together with farmers, communities and organisations with a unique interest in rural development.

“Scotland and Northern Ireland have much to share when it comes to policy development and I am pleased to be part of that exchange of ideas.”
