SCDI BACK CHANGES TO HOLYROOD FINANCING

SCDI BACK CHANGES TO HOLYROOD FINANCING
The Scottish Council for Development and Industry have added their voice to calls for enhanced financial responsibility for the Scottish Parliament.
SNP MSP and Finance Committee member Linda Fabiani welcomed comments from Dr Lesley Sawers, the Chief Executive of SCDI in today's Herald in which she said:
"But it is impossible to talk about the mechanisms for growth without mentioning Scotland's fiscal future.  Barnett is, most would agree, not sustainable beyond the medium term. Scotland requires a financial model which balances a greater responsibility for the generation of revenues with a greater flexibility for deciding how, where and when monies re spent or invested.  We need a funding regime which also underpins Scotland's values of inclusion and diversity and which maximinses the value of the nation's assets, not least our people."
Ms Fabiani commented:
"SCDI's Blueprint for Scotland looks ahead to the challenges facing Scotland and how we can best maximise Scotland's natural assets to deliver a strong and prosperous future for Scotland.
"Dr Sawyer's comments and SCDI's open attitude to enhancing Scotland's financial responsibility are a welcome contribution to the ongoing debate.
"Barnett is no longer sustainable and Calman is not only damaging but has been overtaken by the changes to tax system proposed by the new UK Government
"Importantly Dr Sawyer's recognises that enhanced financial responsibility is not just about revenue generation but about enhancing the whole of Scotland.
"With support for financial responsibility increasing it is important that the organisations like SCDI join the debate and support efforts to build a more prosperous Scotland."
