WELCOME FOR LABOUR MSP “PRINCIPLED POSITION” ON ALCOHOL
WELCOME FOR LABOUR MSP “PRINCIPLED POSITION” ON ALCOHOL
Support from Labour MSP Malcolm Chisholm for the Scottish Government’s proposed Alcohol bill, including minimum pricing, was today welcomed by SNP MSP Michael Matheson.
Mr Matheson, who spoke in the Parliamentary debate on alcohol today and served on the health committee which scrutinised the legislation said:
“Malcolm Chisholm made a powerful and principled contribution to the debate.
“His willingness to support the SNP Government’s proposals on minimum pricing and to base his contribution on evidence not party politics is welcome.
“He has done, as the BMA urged and put aside party differences in favour of the nation’s health.
“It is disappointing that his Labour colleagues have not been able to do likewise.
“The contrast with Labour’s current health spokesperson could not be starker after she admitted she was planning on colluding with the Tories to “hole below the waterline” the minimum price proposal abandoning any pretence of co-operation or consensus working on this issue."
