ROBERTSON COMMENTS ON GAZA FLOTILLA STATEMENT

ROBERTSON COMMENTS ON GAZA FLOTILLA STATEMENT

Commenting following today’s statement in the House of Commons by the
Foreign Secretary on the interception of boats in the Free Gaza
Flotilla, SNP Westminster leader and Foreign Affairs spokesperson,
Angus Robertson MP, urged the UK Government to push for Israel to lift
the blockade and allow unencumbered access for the delivery of aid to
Gaza.

Mr Robertson said:

“There is justified anger at the events which unfolded off the Gaza
coast, and the Israeli authorities must now give answers and
assurances over the welfare of those who remain unaccounted for.

“The level of force used by commandos against volunteers delivering
humanitarian aid has been totally disproportionate, and we deplore the
loss of lives as a result of this interception.

“The swift condemnation of these events by the international community
underlines the now pressing need for Israel to lift the blockade and
allow unfettered access for the delivery of aid to Gaza.”
