DEEPCUT DECISION A DISGRACE
DEEPCUT DECISION A DISGRACE
SNP MP CONDEMS LIB DEM HYPOCRISY
SNP MP Pete Wishart today condemned the utter hypocrisy of the Liberal
Democrats after a Lib Dem minister ruled out holding a public inquiry into
deaths at the Deepcut barracks.
Mr Wishart has supported the parents of Private James Collinson from Perth
in their repeated calls for a full investigation and inquiry into their
son’s death.
Commenting Mr Wishart said:
“This is a disgraceful decision by the Lib Dems. The hypocrisy is
staggering.
“The new minister is wrong to say there is no interest in a public
inquiry. This matter is of great interest and huge importance to the
families of those soldiers who died at Deepcut and who still feel their
questions have not been answered.
"It is the families who after government reports, investigations and
reviews still do not know what happened to these young men and women.
“In opposition the Lib Dems were happy to support the families and to sign
up to calls for a public inquiry. Now they are dumping that promise
within days of getting into Government.
“Successive governments have refused to act in support of the families.
Disappointingly it seems the Liberals and their Conservative allies are no
different.
"I will be raising this refusal with the Government in the hope they can
see sense and change their minds."
