SCOTTISH TRAVELLERS PAYING MORE
MSP URGES TRAVEL OPERATORS TO BRING PRICES INTO LINE
Research by SNP MSP Stewart Maxwell has shown that Scots holiday makers are being forced to pay over the odds compared with holiday makers in England and in particularly those travelling from London.
Stewart Maxwell said,
“A family of four flying, with Thomas Cook, to Orlando from Glasgow on 17th July for a 2 week holiday in Walt Disney World will pay £1000 more than an equivalent family flying from London to Orlando and staying in the same resort at Disney on the same dates.
“It is even more ludicrous that a family of four flying from Glasgow to Reykjavic, with Thomas Cook, on 17th July for a 2 week stay in the Hotel Reykjavic will pay £304.58 more than a family of four flying from London to stay at the Hotel Reykjavic - yet Iceland is closer to Glasgow than to London.
“If you were to fly First Choice from Glasgow to Gran Canaria for a 2-week stay on 28th June then it would cost you £800 more than if you flew from London.
“This is disgraceful and quite clearly discriminates against Scottish travelers and Scottish airports. It is clear to me that Scots pay more for their well-earned holidays than people in the South of England and is one more example of the way in which Scotland is being poorly served by these travel operators.
"I will be contacting all operators and the airports asking them to justify the additional costs charged to Scots passengers and to bring prices in Scotland into line with those elsewhere.”
