TAVISH CHALLENGED ON COUNCIL TAX FREEZE
TAVISH CHALLENGED ON COUNCIL TAX FREEZE
As the Liberal Democrats appear poised implement a council tax freeze for taxpayers across England SNP MSP Dave Thompson challenged the Scottish Lib Dems to drop their opposition to the fully funded council tax freeze that has supported families through difficult times over recent years in Scotland.
The Lib Dems in Scotland have described continuing with the council tax freeze this current year as "distorted priorities".
Highlands and Islands MSP Dave Thompson said:
"The Council tax freeze has provided real help to many families across Scotland through tough times and by fully funding it local authorities have not lost out on a penny - yet Tavish Scott wanted to put people's taxes up.
"Now his London colleagues - including the new Chief Secretary Danny Alexander - whose constituents know the benfits a council tax freeze can bring and whose own Lib Dem council has received the full funding to implement it - are importing the idea to England will Tavish Scott change his mind?
"With a council tax freeze set to be offered across the UK I will be writing to Tavish Scott for his support in delivering a further year's freeze for Scotland."
