£3.4 MILLION IS BOOST FOR FALKIRK’S BUS MANUFACTURERS

Falkirk West SNP MSP Michael Matheson has welcomed an announcement by the First Minister allocating £3.4 million to increase the use of low carbon vehicles by Scotland's public services.

Mr Matheson believes the funding will be an enormous boost for Scottish bus manufacturers Alexander Dennis who are based in his constituency. Alexander Dennis already offers a full range of hybrid buses with low CO2 emissions and the £3.4 million announced today will be used to invest in local green bus schemes by local authorities.

Commenting Mr Matheson said:

“This is good news for the workers at Alexander Dennis within my constituency. They are one of the world leaders in producing green buses and this funding gives them a great opportunity.

"Alexander Dennis is one of our leading manufacturers and specialises in the kind of new green technology needed not just in Scotland but around the world.

"As a firm owned and operated in Scotland leading the world in new green technology. I hope Scotland's bus companies and public sector bodies will ensure they consider Scottish made vehicles from Falkirk.

“In these difficult economic times such Scottish Government initiatives are incredibly important to ensure Scotland’s economy continues to grow.”
