GRAY DISARRAY ON REFERENDUM – LABOUR CHAOS CONTINUES.

GRAY DISARRAY ON REFERENDUM – LABOUR CHAOS CONTINUES.

“OK LAST YEAR, OK IN THE FUTURE – BUT RUNNING SCARED OF SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT BILL IN 2010”

SNP MSP Kenneth Gibson today challenged Labour on their real position on the referendum as Iain Gray admitted he had no problem with a referendum except when the SNP offer one.

Coming only a day after Labour voted against people’s democratic right to choose their constitutional future Iain Gray told a BBC webcast that “Of course I believe in democracy for the people”.

Mr Gray also accepted that a referendum would happen saying;
“Will there have to be a referendum some time, if there is pressure for it there may well be, I never say never.” and
“I can imagine circumstances in the future where there would be good reason, good sense, a desire to have a referendum and I don’t rule that out forever”

Mr Gibson said;
“Iain Gray has got the Wendy Alexander referendum bug – Labour’s chaos on the issue continues under his leadership.
“It seems Labour are happy for there to be a referendum at any time other than the 2010 referendum promised in the SNP manifesto.

“This is a completely ridiculous and absurd position by Labour. As usual they have no idea whether they are coming or going.

“Yesterday’s vote was short term politics for no long term gain – other than to prove that Labour and the other London parties are standing in the way of the right of the people to choose Scotland’s future.

“The SNP were elected on the promise to bring forward a referendum Bill in 2010 and that is what we will do.
“Iain Gray says there should be a referendum when there is public pressure for one – well with a majority of members of the public and Labour voters wanting a referendum on Independence how much more pressure does he need?

“Iain Gray’s real fear is that as the UK’s disastrous economic management and Labour’s swingeing budget cuts for Scotland are exposed more and more people will see that the best route to prosperity for Scotland is as an independent nation with full financial powers.”
