LABOUR RENT ASUNDER ON POST OFFICE PRIVATISATION.

LABOUR RENT ASUNDER ON POST OFFICE PRIVATISATION.

“RASPBERRY IN DUNDEE MORE WORRYING THAN GREEN CUSTARD IN LONDON”

SNP Postal Affairs spokesperson Mike Weir MP has warned Scottish Labour against sweeping the issue of Royal Mail privatisation under the carpet.

His comments come as the Communication Workers Union (CWU) demonstrated against UK Government plans to privatise Royal Mail outside the Scottish Labour Conference and it was reported that delegates were forbidden from wearing t-shirts protesting against the move inside the conference hall.

Mr Weir said:

“It’s not the protest against Peter Mandelson in London that Labour need to worry about – it’s the protest in the front row of Labour’s conference in Dundee against Post Office privatisation. The loud raspberry in Dundee is much more damaging to Labour’s credibility than the green custard in London.

“Labour are rent asunder on their damaging Post Office privatisation proposals and the simmering anger over Peter Mandelson’s plan seems to be consuming Labour’s conference as the main talking point.

“Yesterday, Labour chair Dave Watson said that what Lord Mandelson was pushing though was not in the Labour manifesto and that the Royal Mail should not be for sale.

“Will Jim Murphy – who is effectively operating as Labour’s leader in Scotland and upstaging the hapless Iain Gray – address the issue in his conference speech on Sunday, or will Labour try to sweep it under the carpet?”
