MISSILES MAY NOT FIT NEW NUCLEAR SUBMARINES.

DEBACLE UNDERLINES TIME IS RIGHT TO GET RID OF TRIDENT

SNP Defence spokesperson Angus Robertson MP has described as ‘farcical’ revelations that the new nuclear missiles, to be developed in America, may not fit into the £20bn Trident submarines being built to carry the lethal deterrent.

The revelations come in a House of Commons Public Accounts Committee report which expresses serious doubts over the UK’s Government ability to replace the Trident missile system according to its current timetable.

Mr Robertson said:

“Not only are the UK Government’s plans full of holes, but Ministers literally do not know what size the holes should be for these weapons of mass destruction.

“It would be comical if it was not such a desperate and irresponsible waste of money at a time of recession.

“Just this week Gordon Brown claimed that he wanted to see international nuclear disarmament. I think his sentiments would be rather more convincing if he led by example and ditched Labour’s hyper-expensive and flawed plans to replace these weapons of mass destruction.

“This latest farce further underlines that the time is right to get rid of Trident.”
