SNP SET TO TAKE DUNDEE COUNCIL.

SNP SET TO TAKE DUNDEE COUNCIL.
LABOUR LOSE DUNDEE LORD PROVOST The SNP today moved a step closer to running Dundee City Council as Labour Lord Provost John Letford resigned from the Labour group in the Council and confirmed he will vote with the SNP in a special meeting of the council next week (30th March). The move which follows the SNP’s success in the recent Maryfield by-election gives the council 14 SNP councillors against 8 Labour, 2 LDs, 3 Con and 2 Independents. SNP Group Leader Cllr Ken Guild said; “The SNP will now be able to form a new administration for the city as Labour continue their collapse. The SNP are the largest party in Dundee and it is time for the voters of Dundee to see an administration they elected.” “John Letford has been an excellent ambassador for the city and we hope he will be able to continue in his ceremonial role under an SNP administration. “I was aware that John Letford had had recent difficulties with the Labour group and this decision has taken great personal courage." SNP MSP for Dundee West Joe FitzPatrick said; “After decades of Labour domination it is now time for a new start for Dundee. “This is a real vote of confidence from the people of Dundee in the ability of the SNP to run this city and to put Dundee at the heart of Scotland’s future. “Less than three weeks ago Gordon Brown came to Dundee and claimed the city was in a “great state” because it had a Labour council - it is clear the voters of Dundee and now one of Labour’s own councillors disagrees. “Dundee faces new challenges following the announcement at NCR but also new opportunities with funding in place to revive the waterfront and investment in training for the City's computer games and life sciences industries. “The SNP is up to those challenges and we hope to see a change in administration on Monday.”
